How Telia Heating Optimization works
( 1 ) Wireless sensors are positioned inside the building to collect temperature and humidity information. These are battery powered for ease-of-installation.
( 2 ) The Telia IoT Platform collects and analyzes the data to be displayed on easy-to-use, web-based dashboards.
( 3 ) Data is then sent to the temperature control system that automatically adjusts the building heating system. Data can be sent directly to the control system if its location allows it to be collected. Otherwise, a Telia IoT Edge gateway can be installed to enable wireless connectivity and additional security for the solution.
Note: The solution currently supports buildings connected to district heating. Additional heating systems will be supported in the future.
A platform to build on
The Telia IoT platform enables building managers to monitor and analyze the temperature and energy usage inside their buildings. This means they can identify patterns and make accurate predictions in order to minimize energy wastage.
When sensors are activated, the IoT SIMs will auto-connect to the platform to enable plug-n-play simplicity. The Telia IoT Platform is an open platform to support best-of-breed digital services of today, as well as those that will emerge in the future – without the danger of vendor lock in.
Connectivity designed for deep indoor penetration
Our wireless temperature and humidity sensors are connected by Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) connectivity. This is part of the ‘massive IoT’ component of 5G. It is designed to reach further and penetrate deeper into buildings than traditional IoT connectivity. This means sensors can work deep inside buildings as well as underground.

Control and automate your heating system
The interface that connects the building's installed unit with the Telia IoT Platform, is the KTC SRD5000. It enables building managers to control their heating system remotely or onsite via manual control. Data from KTC's algorithms is incorporated in the monitor, control and automate functionality of the Telia IoT Platform.
