Telia has the best performing 5G network in Stockholm

With a score of 968 points out of 1000, Telia has the best performing 5G mobile network in Stockholm, Sweden according to umlaut, who’ve conducted new tests between 01.06.2021 and 05.06.2021 in Stockholm. The results are based on smartphone data performance through extensive drive tests.

On top Telia’s network has the strongest performance in all categories that are important for the customer experience, such as download and upload speeds as well as video and web browsing. This is remarkable, especially in these challenging times of the COVID-19 virus!”

By collecting data performance on web browsing, file download, file upload and YouTube on 5G capable devices, the drive test was focusing on customer-perceived network quality, Telia achieved the highest score on all areas.

”In the beginning of July, we marked a new Swedish speed record in central Stockholm, and it’s really exciting to see that we continue to deliver great performance and a superior customer experience in our new 5G network being rolled out in Stockholm and around the country. And like the speed record, umlaut’s test was not done in a lab. This was a real-world test, something anyone with a Telia 5G subscription can emulate on their own smartphone”, says Staffan Åkesson, Head of Infra and CTO, Telia Sweden

“5G and its unique technical features opens the door to entirely new applications and experiences in everything from transportation to entertainment. Results like this is proof that the technology is delivering on its promise, and I think we will see many more 5G powered services being launched in the years to come. The bus launched at Djurgården in Stockholm, is part of the ongoing 5G Ride project led by testbed Urban ICT Arena and partners Telia, Ericsson, Keolis, Intel and T-engineering to introduce a more efficient and sustainable system for public transport. You can view the full report here.

In May last year, Telia launched Sweden's first large-scale public 5G network in Stockholm. Since then, the company has pushed ahead to provide all Swedes access to the country’s best network*. In partnership with Ericsson, 5G is now being rolled out at a high pace from Skåne to Lappland and is already available in 22 cities.

Telia’s 5G network uses higher frequency bands, such as 3.5 GHz acquired in the 5G auction, in densely populated areas with a lot of connected people and things using the network. The higher frequency bands are also used to build local, dedicated 5G networks for e.g., industry, ports, and hospitals. The lower frequency bands, such as 700 MHz, are used in rural areas to be able to offer good coverage and connection.
