Telia brings mobile calling to the cloud with launch of Operator Connect Mobile with Microsoft Teams
Telia becomes one of the first Nordic region operators to launch Operator Connect Mobile for Microsoft Teams, a new service for business customers which will elevate the mobile number into the Microsoft cloud, enabling Telia’s mobile users to make and receive calls through the Teams.
Additionally, this also extends the power and capabilities of the Teams Phone System into the mobile’s native dialer. The service plans will be launched in Sweden during fall of 2022 and will continue to roll out in other Telia markets in the Nordics and Baltics later in 2022 and early 2023.
Microsoft Teams is widely used among businesses in the Nordics and Baltics. A good example of this is Sweden, where Teams has become the most popular collaboration service among Swedish companies* and is now a central part of the new hybrid work environment that has emerged in the last few years.
Telia launched Operator Connect for Teams in September last year, which had included support for bringing PSTN calling with fixed numbers to Teams, integrating the service to Telia’s fixed networks. The new service Operator Connect Mobile will enable the same type of integration to Telia’s mobile networks, thus virtualizing mobile calling into the Microsoft cloud, leveraging the power of Azure for Operators.
“We want to make life simpler for our business customers, big and small, and we want to help them lower barriers for collaboration. Operator Connect for Teams helps us do that by integrating our fixed and mobile networks with Teams and turning it into a one-stop-shop for all communication. For example, users will be able to receive a call on their smartphone and then switch to video through Teams on the same device or on a laptop, all with just a click”, says Per Broo, Head of Product Area Communication at Telia Company.
With Operator Connect Mobile, Microsoft aims to power the mobile worker transformation by combining their business mobile identity with their productivity suite via a mobile-first, unified and business compliant communication & collaboration solution.
"Telia’s offering of Operator Connect Mobile for Teams will help us do just that. By building a deeply integrated, reliable connectivity fabric between the 5G network and Microsoft’s secure collaboration cloud, we will be able to innovate together to provide intelligent communication services and redefine the future of mobile communications,” said Vandana Thomas, Product Leader of Operator Connect Mobile at Microsoft Corp.
Easy to use and deploy
Currently, Operator Connect Mobile for Teams – delivered by Telia allows businesses to connect their SIM-enabled mobile phone numbers to their Teams application. It takes just minutes to do, and all from a simple to use interface, where administrators can manage the service. To ensure a robust and reliable service, Telia provides support and can deliver the service as part of a total communication solution to customers.
The launch of Operator Connect Mobile for Teams will allow users to make and receive calls through Teams using their mobile phone numbers. A call to a mobile phone number will work just as well as calling someone on the Teams application. Users will also be able to uplift mobile calls seamlessly to a Teams session on the mobile phone or move it to the Teams application in their PC.
