Shaping the Digital Future with IoT - “The value has become tangible”

The Internet of Things (IoT) and data insights are the spearhead of the digital revolution. More and more companies discover the value of connecting their businesses, and at Telia we continue to see the increase in the number of connected devices on our networks. Now, we encourage businesses and organizations to modernize their IoT solutions to enter the 5G era.

In the past couple of years, Telia’s IoT solutions have won and been nominated for a range of global IoT awards, as our expertise spans multiple industries and is part of shaping a more sustainable and efficient future. We aim to enable customers to connect and then efficiently manage their products, thereby being able to focus on their core business.

For example, a telecom media site recently reported that the number of Telia Machine-to-Machine (M2M) subscriptions has increased by 25.5 percent, outnumbering traditional subscriptions. Businesses across the world are truly discovering the benefits of this digitalization.

“Our IoT business has grown steadily in recent years and the driving forces are sustainability, efficiency and digitalization. Areas we invest in are urban planning such as transport, real estate and the energy industry. As more things in society are connected, we expect that the market will continue to grow for many years,” says Björn Hansen, Head of Commercial IoT at Telia.

For example Telia’s Smart Building offering combines IoT with data insights and real-estate IT solutions, to help building owners enhance operations, optimize heating and monitor indoor climate, air quality and room occupancy. The EU estimates that buildings account for 40 percent of energy consumption in cities and 36 percent of CO2 emissions, so the need for our innovative IoT solutions are clear. The same is happening in public transport.

In addition to increased sustainability, the increased efficiency and optimized operations that IoT brings are clear in real life. Telia’s customers are connecting everything from smart sensors on electricity grids, forestry machines and industry equipment to rat traps, roads and vehicles.

Also, the fifth generation of mobile networks is an evolution in mobile communications, enabling new ways to solve business challenges and digitalizing ways of working and implement new IoT functionalities.  So it is high time to modernize. Telia is currently supporting businesses in their transition into the 5G era and have released a step-by-step guide

Telia has been recognized for its IoT innovation and pioneering through several IoT awards. In addition, Björn Hansen is now also a part of shaping the future of IoT by serving on the jury for the IoT Global Awards.

“Alongside experts from organizations like Transforma Insights and GSMA, we are driving the development of IoT. We’re recognizing those innovators who have taken ‘IoT’ from a buzzword to a cornerstone of technological advancement across various sectors,” he says.
